California Red Sheep
California Red Sheep are multi-purpose medium
size sheep, producing meat, wool and milk.
Their meat is tender and tasty with no chalky
after-taste that characterizes some other breeds.
The wool has soft red hairs in a medium-fine
oatmeal colored wool. It spins easily and is an
superb wool for beginning spinners to start with.
When dyed the red hairs dye darker than the
wool thus producing a beautiful heather yarn.
While not producing the quantity of milk that
traditional dairy sheep breeds produce, the
California Red Sheep are excellent for home
milking with a milk extremely high in butterfat
(which makes to-die-for ice cream and cheese)
and their production stays steady up to 270 days
post lambing.
